Meaning of the job and learning in information age

In an interview with Wired, Fredi Lajvardi who created a high school student robotics program and take state and national championships said :

What’s worse is that the data suggests that what we’ve been teaching for the last 20 years isn’t relevant in an information economy.

Yes, we are live in information age but not industrial society.

Why do we need the job to get some food even though we are not living in agricultural society? In the US, less than 1% of population grow foods for the rest.
